Neighbourhood Watch

This is the start of a body of work documenting the boundaries between dwellings in particular neighbourhoods and postcodes. Each group is taken from a particular street and summarises, to some extent, through a shared patina and temperature, something about the nature and integrity of that neighbourhood. Each boundary, on the other hand, throws up differences: in taste; attention to detail; maintenance or neglect; structural integrity or decay; degrees of conformity or individuality. These 'edges' hint at differences and tensions within the group, and  these territorial meeting places combine to trigger thoughts about coherence or tension. As 'grids' each group can be seen as a kind of visual matrix or data set, in which abstract qualities, marks, textural qualities, boundaries and relationships might trigger new, re-imagined stories and inteptretations: Who is the upstart in this group? Do those soft edged 'meldings' between one field and another ring true?.... Beige Wars!
